Carob Protein Balls

dairy free eczema diet recipe failsafe gluten free low amine low salicylate vegan

Carob Protein Balls

Carob Protein Balls make a delicious and healthy snack that can also satisfy your sweet tooth. These ones are made using eczema-friendly ingredients from Karen Fischer's Eczema Detox and Eczema Diet programs. THE HEALTH BENEFITS: Carob has been used for over 4,000 years for its various health properties. Carob is naturally caffeine free and supplies calcium, magnesium, vitamins B2 and B6 and dietary fibre. Carob is a great alternative to cocoa powder (also called cacao), which is rich in amines that can irritate some skin problems.  We use Rice malt syrup in this recipe as it is fructose-free, low in salicylates and is alkalising as opposed to refined...

Low Salicylate Carob Brownies

Low Salicylate Carob Brownies

National brownie day is...well not actually until the 8th of December, so we are a little premature here. But who can wait when this delicious brownie alternative is ready to go.        The standard brownie recipe typically contains chocolate, wheat flour, sugar, butter and eggs, which can be problematic for people with sensitive skin and allergies.         This skin-friendly alternative is sweet, moist and delicious and uses ingredients featured in Karen Fischer's Eczema Detox and Eczema Diet programs.  This tasty recipe comes from one of our lovely support group followers (see credit, below), and we just had to make it ourselves.  The...

Charred Lettuce Autumn Salad with Fish

Charred Lettuce Autumn Salad with Fish

This tasty paleo-inspired fish dish includes a beautiful Autumn vegetable salad, paired with fresh white fish.  It's nearly Easter, and it's officially Autumn here in Australia, so we thought this colourful dish would be ideal for a special Good Friday meal (or anytime really). We have used ingredients that are featured in The Eczema Detox (check out the beautiful book here), plus sugar snap peas just because they look AMAZING in photos. Note sugar snap peas contain moderate salicylates so omit them if you are sensitive to this natural chemical. If you have read The Eczema Detox or The Eczema Diet by nutritionist Karen Fischer, you already know all about salicylates and how they...

Carob Mylk Chocolate Bar

Carob Mylk Chocolate Bar

I'm having a skin-friendly Easter with this new recipe ... It's nearly Easter so today we made a healthy carob chocolate bar that is low in  salicylates (the chemicals that can irritate eczema), caffeine-free, soy-free, gluten-free and dairy-free ... which is not an easy feat as there are no recipes we could follow that totally met our criteria. So we made our own, using three key ingredients ... Attempt number two was a success, and we now know that you CANNOT mix maple syrup with cocoa butter as it curdles! My son Jack has just tested this chocolate bar (and asked for more), so it has passed the 'fussy child'...

Cashew Nut Cream Frosting

Cashew Nut Cream Frosting

This healthy frosting recipe really surprised me as it tastes both healthy and delicious. I'm not keen on super sickly sweet icing anyway, so Katie and I have been testing ways to make a healthy frosting in time for Easter. After two failed attempts, here is recipe test number 3 ... it's a winner! Thanks Katie. {BTW, Katie works with me at the Eczema Life Clinic and she has the tough job of designing some of our recipes with our eczema-friendly ingredients list).  Tips: We use raw cashews as they are the only amine-free nuts. Note that roasted cashews contain...
