Karen Fischer

Karen Fischer is an Australian nutritionist who holds a Bachelor of Health Science Degree. With a love of nutritional biochemistry and a passion for nutrition, over the past 20 years Karen has created various food programs to help thousands of people with skin issues.

Karen has penned seven health books including the best-sellers The Eczema Detox, The Eczema Diet and The Healthy Skin Kitchen. In the 1990's Karen was a popular children’s television presenter and in 2008 the media went crazy for her tips on marketing healthy food to children. She has appeared on Sky News, Seven’s Sunrise and Today Tonight, Nine Network’s A Current Affair, What’s Up Doc? and The Morning Show and in 2014 Karen’s ‘breakthrough diet for eczema’ story appeared on primetime Seven News. Karen has written various articles for The Sun Herald, Body+Soul and Madison magazine and she had a health column in Cosmopolitan magazine.

Karen now spends her time running a company called Skin Friend, developing products to help people love their skin and enjoy life. When she is not wearing hats, you’ll find her cooking in the kitchen or lying on a yoga mat. She has two beautiful children and lives a quiet life by the beach.

Work

Karen is the founder and owner of the vitamin supplement company Skin Friend Pty Ltd and the eczema support network Eczema Life, and she previously ran the Eczema Life Clinic in Sydney. 

Education

Karen has a Bachelor of Health Science Degree (University of New England, Australia) and a Diploma of Nutrition (Nature Care College) and has a special interest in nutritional biochemistry. She also has an Advanced Diploma of Business. 

Hobbies

Karen is an avid (novice) photographer and food stylist for her own cookbooks. She also loves yoga, restores/makes furniture in her spare time and collects vintage items that need a home. She wears a hat every day because it makes her smile. 

Family

Karen has two wonderful, sensitive children who both previously suffered from food intolerances. Her eldest child, Ayva, no longer has eczema and she happily eats whatever she likes (including avocado which is her favourite).

The Healthy Skin Diet was awarded ‘Best Health, Nutrition or Specific Diet Book’ at the Australian Food Media Awards in 2008.
